Fox News is reporting that the FBI and European law enforcement have arrested Ryan Ackroyd, a.k.a. “Karla”; Jake Davis, a.k.a. “Topiary”; Darren Martyn, a.k.a. “pwnsauce”; Donncha O’Cearrbhail, a.k.a. “Palladium”; and Jeremy Hammond, a.k.a. “Anarchos” (who separately is being identified as a member of Anonymous). LulzSec leader “Sabu,” identified as Hector Xavier Monsegur, said to live on the Lower East Side in New York, was arrested last year and pled guilty on Aug. 15, 2011, to a dozen hacking-related charges, and began working with the FBI to catch his fellow hackers, according to the report.

LulzSec is suspected in a long string of hacker incidents, including attacks against Sony, usually believed to be carried out due to the group’s resentment of the target’s corporate or political activities.

The arrests follow the Feb. 28 bust by international police organization Interpol of 25 people and a variety of computer equipment Interpol said were part of the hactivist group Anonymous.

The Interpol Anonymous arrests were made across 15 cities in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain, Interpol said in a news release. The arrests followed an investigation called “Operation Unmask” that began in mid-February following cyberattacks directed at Colombia’s Ministry of Defense and the president’s website, and Chile’s Endesa electricity company and its national library. Authorities searched 40 locations and seized 250 items including computer equipment and mobile phones. An investigation continues into how the alleged hackers’ activities were funded, Interpol said.
