Before the first half's end, High Point basketball sports information director Jon Litchfield told Sporting News that Chaney's internal defibrillator went off for an unknown reason, but that Chaney "felt fine before, felt fine right after and feels fine now."
Chaney was diagnosed with viral myocarditis — an inflammation of the heart that can be fatal — after collapsing during a practice at Virginia Tech in April 2010. He had his internal defibrillator implanted as a way to regain medical clearance.

Here’s what happened. With 10:09 left in the first half and Wofford lined up to shoot a free throw, Chaney was on the low block. He suddenly yelled out and fell to the floor. Litchfield said the defibrillator went off, which feels like the shock of a dog collar. Naturally, that scared Chaney and he reacted by going to the court, even though he felt fine.
He was pointing toward the bench, and was immediately attended to by on-the-scene medical personnel. After two full minutes, at 5:28 p.m. ET, Chaney stood up on his own and walked off the court. The game resumed soon after.
Litchfield said Chaney would be held out the rest of the game as a precaution, and he would be examined on Monday. Chaney came back to the bench in the second half, which was a welcome sight for those in attendance.
High Point beat Wofford 66-56. John Brown shot 10-of-15 from the field and had 22 points for the Panthers, who are now 3-2. Spencer Collins led the Terriers with 13 points.
