Pokemon affected by a weather boost will have a little icon of the current weather on top of their name box in the catch screen. Additionally, the Pokemon’s feet will be surrounded by a little swirling effect on the overworld before attempting to capture them.

Players should note that just because weather conditions impact Pokemon spawn rates in Pokemon GO, there aren’t any Pokemon that will exclusively appear in certain types of weather. Despite old rumors from the game’s initial release, players will not find Zapdos by running around outside in the middle of a thunderstorm.

There are currently seven different types of weather effects in Pokemon GO. Players can check what Pokemon GO considers to be the current weather by pressing the button on the top right of the main screen in-game. The weather effects are:

Sunny/Clear Rain Windy Snow Fog Cloudy Partly Cloudy

Sunny/Clear weather gives the weather boost effect to grass-types, ground-types, and fire-types. With summer creeping in, players in the Northern Hemisphere are expected to see this effect often.

Rainy weather gives the weather boost effect to water-type Pokemon, electric-types, and bug-types. Players should take caution with rainy weather as this weather can be dangerous to travel in and play a game in at the same time.

Windy weather gives the weather boost effect to dragon-types, flying-types, and psychic-types. Sunny weather can quickly turn into this type of weather, providing a good chance for finding and catching rare dragon-type Pokemon.

Snowy weather gives the weather boost effect to ice-types and steel-types. Players in the southern-hemisphere are approaching winter and should be expecting opportunities for ice and steel Pokemon soon.

Foggy weather gives the weather boost to dark-types and ghost-types. Like with rainy weather, players should stay cautious and play safely as the reduced visibility from fog can make travel dangerous for players and non-players alike.

Cloudy weather gives the weather boost to fairy-types, fighting-types, and poison-types. Players wanting Pokemon to help take down dragons in opposing gyms should go out hunting for fairy types if this is the weather.

Finally, partly cloudy weather gives the weather boost to normal-types, and rock-types. This is one of the most common weathers which is fitting with normal and rock-types being relatively common Pokemon.
