Speculation points to Nintendo possibly revealing the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 fighter at The Game Awards on December 12, or during a Nintendo Direct at some point in December (though one hasn’t been announced). It’s also possible that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 character won’t release until 2020. Whatever the case may be, rumors have been swirling about the next character’s identity, with at least eight fighters having “leaked” for the game in recent weeks.

Nintendo has thrown fans some real curveballs when it comes to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters, so the next character could really be just about anybody. Considering this, we wouldn’t rule out any of these eight characters as being next in line for DLC, though some are more likely candidates than others. With that in mind, here are all the rumored Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 characters.
Crash Bandicoot
One of the most common “leaked” characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is none other than Crash Bandicoot. Crash Bandicoot served as the original PlayStation’s platforming mascot, competing directly with Nintendo’s Mario and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog, so to see him join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster would be a real treat for fans. And since Activision owns the rights to the character instead of Sony, the odds of the brightly-colored marsupial making his way to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster is a lot better than it would be otherwise. Plus, Crash Bandicoot games have been releasing on Nintendo platforms since 2002’s Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure on the Game Boy Advance. It’s possible the “leaks” about Crash Bandicoot joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster are really just wishful thinking by fans who are desperate to see the novelty of him going toe to toe with Mario and Sonic, but even less likely characters have found their way to Super Smash Bros. in the past. Anything is possible.
Dante (Devil May Cry)
Capcom already has multiple characters on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, including Street Fighter’s Ryu and of course, Mega Man. Recent rumors have suggested that yet another Capcom character will be making their way to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the form of Devil May Cry’s Dante, which would make sense for a few different reasons. Besides the fact that Capcom and Nintendo have an established working relationship, the company has been porting the original Devil May Cry trilogy to the Switch. Plus, there’s a Resident Evil Spirit event coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this week, which may provide the perfect opportunity for Dante to be added to the game. Dante’s unique abilities would make for an interesting move-set in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to be sure, and many fans would love the opportunity to see him fight his Platinum Games counterpart, Bayonetta.

Doomguy (Doom)
One of the most common “leaked” characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been Doomguy from Doom. With Doom being such an iconic and innovative piece of gaming history, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Sakurai incorporate the character into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, despite many rumors and supposed leaks claiming Doomguy to be next in line, the character still has yet to be announced. Like Capcom, Doom publisher Bethesda has an established and seemingly healthy collaborative relationship with Nintendo, and so Doomguy seems like one of the more realistic possibilities for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5.
Geno (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)
For years, Super Smash Bros. fans have called on Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars to be added to the Super Smash Bros. roster. Hope was renewed when other Square Enix characters like Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud Strife made their way to the series, but so far Geno still hasn’t made his debut. Rights to the character are a little shaky since he appeared in a Square Enix-developed Super Mario game, but hopefully the two companies can work something out.
Gordon Freeman (Half-Life)
Valve shocked the gaming world recently with the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx. The first new Half-Life game in over 10 years, Half-Life: Alyx looks to be one of the most ambitious virtual reality titles to date, and will finally give Half-Life fans a new game to experience. As it so happens, someone actually leaked Half-Life: Alyx before the game was officially announced by Valve, and that same leaker has made the claim that Half-Life protagonist Gordan Freeman is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a playable fighter. Gordan Freeman would certainly be a surprising choice for the roster, but at the same time, he is an iconic video game character and would fit right in with everyone else. If Gordon Freeman is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, expect it to be announced at The Game Awards 2019, along with reveals of Half-Life Switch ports.

Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia)
One of the most critically-acclaimed and beloved JRPGs on the Nintendo GameCube is without a doubt Tales of Symphonia. Hailed by many to be arguably the best Tales game, Tales of Symphonia’s popularity has persisted to this day, often showing up on many “top” lists from a variety of outlets. Tales of Symphonia hero Lloyd Irving seems like an obvious choice for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, especially since Tales games are published by Bandai Namco, which just so happens to assist in the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Out of all the possible third party characters Nintendo could get for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5, Lloyd Irving would arguably be one of the most likely.
Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)
Just as Doomguy has been frequently rumored for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so too has Ryu Hayabusa of Ninja Gaiden fame. There have been a number of rumors, some dating all the way back to last year, that have claimed Ryu is set to be the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter. However, these rumors have proven to be false time and time again, when a different character is announced instead of Ryu. Considering Ninja Gaiden’s long history on Nintendo platforms, it’s easy to see why the developers would want to add Ryu to the roster, though, and so if he isn’t the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 character, maybe he can be added in the next batch of fighters.
Waluigi
One of the biggest uproars leading up to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launch was the lack of Waluigi. Waluigi has been presented as a joke character by Nintendo, but he still has his fans, and his exclusion from the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster propelled him to meme status. Waluigi is rumored to be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate despite denials by the development team, so fans shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
