The new season got underway on NBC at 11:30pm ET on October 2, 2021, with this season’s hosts including Kim Kardashian, Jason Sudeikis and Jonathan Majors. The musical guests have included Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Young Thug.
Here are all of the hosts and musical guests confirmed to appear on Season 47 of SNL so far.
Episode 11 — Will Forte and Måneskin
Continuing the tradition of former cast members returning to host, Will Forte is back for this next episode of SNL. He recently starred in the Netflix hit Sweet Tooth, and also reprised his role of MacGruber in the new Peacock series of the same name.
Forte will be joined by Italian rock band Måneskin on the January 22 show. The band came to prominence in 2017 when they came second on the Italian version of The X Factor before going on to win the Eurovision Song Contest for Italy in 2021.
Episode 10 — Ariana DeBose and Bleachers
Fresh off the back of her Golden Globe-winning performance in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, Ariana DeBose made her Saturday Night Live debut as the first host of 2022 on January 15. The actress has a number of Broadway credits to her name and has appeared in a number of musicals including Hamilton, The Prom and Lorne Michaels’ Apple TV+ show Schmigadoon!
Grammy award winner Roddy Ricch was due to perform during Episode 10 but had to drop out just days before the show because of “a COVID outbreak” on his team. Instead Bleachers, aka Jack Antonoff, filled in as the musical guest. Antonoff is a songwriter and producer known for his work with the band Fun. and for contributing music to the likes of Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and Lorde.
Episode 9 — Paul Rudd and Charlie XCX*
Paul Rudd has made several appearances over the years but on December 18, the popular Christmas episode of SNL, Rudd was inducted into the coveted five-timers club—albeit under different circumstances to how he would have imagined.
The planned show was canceled after a COVID-19 outbreak in the building, which meant just Rudd, Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Michael Che and Kenan Thompson were part of the show, while everything else was pre-recorded. Rudd had a busy year after appearing in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the TV series The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+.
British musician Charlie XCX was due to make her second appearance as a musical guest but was also not part of the show in the end. Charlie’s new album Crash is set to come out on March 18, 2022 but singles from the album “Good Ones” and “New Shapes” are out now.
Episode 8 — Billie Eilish
The first celebrity to perform double duty in Season 47 is Billie Eilish who hosted and was the musical guest on December 11. Her appearance came one week before her twentieth birthday.
Her album Happier Than Ever came out in the summer of 2021 and she’s had two documentaries release on streaming platforms in 2021: Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blury on Apple TV+ and Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles on Disney+. It was Eilish’s second appearance on SNL after serving as musical guest in 2019 alongside the host Woody Harrelson.
Episode 7 — Simu Liu and Saweetie
Another Marvel star, Simu Liu, made his debut on Saturday Night Live on November 20, 2021. He stars as the eponymous Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which aired in theaters and Disney+ in 2021.
He’s also be recognized for his role as Jung Kim in the long-running sitcom Kim’s Convenience.
American rapper Saweetie made her first appearance on SNL on the November 20, 2021 show. She also hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards in November while her first studio album Pretty B*tch Music is still scheduled to come out in 2022.
Her biggest song to date is “Best Friend (feat. Doja Cat)” which reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Episode 6 — Jonathan Majors and Taylor Swift
Jonathan Majors, a future star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, made his first appearance on Saturday Night Live as host on November 13, 2021. He’s best known for his roles in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Da 5 Bloods and Loki, as well as the Netflix Western The Harder They Fall, which is available to watch now.
After being introduced to the MCU in Loki, he’s been cast as Kang the Conqueror and may appear in many more Marvel films in the future.
Taylor Swift returned to the stage at Studio 8H as the musical guest for the fifth time — including the time she was both host and musical guest in 2009. Her new re-recorded album Red (Taylor’s Version) launched on November 12, 2021.
Episode 5 — Kieran Culkin and Ed Sheeran
After a brief break, SNL returned on November 6, 2021 with Succession star Kieran Culkin as the guest host. Kieran followed in the footsteps of his brother Macaulay Culkin who hosted the show in 1991 at the age of 11.
Kieran, two years younger than Macaulay, also starred in Home Alone alongside his brother. Kieran recently starred in the Steven Soderbergh movie No Sudden Move but is best known for his role in HBO’s Succession.
Despite fears that he would not make the show after contracting COVID-19, Ed Sheeran appeared as the musical guest on November 6, 2021. It was his third time in the role after previously appearing in 2014 and 2017. His studio album =, which features the singles “Bad Habits” and “Shivers” came out on Friday, October 29, 2021.
Episode 4 — Jason Sudeikis and Brandi Carlile
SNL alumnus Jason Sudeikis returned to Studio 8H for the first time as host. He started writing for Saturday Night Live in 2003 before becoming a cast member in 2005. He’s also made several cameo appearances since he left in 2013.
He’s since gone on to win several awards for his performance as Ted Lasso in the Apple TV+ series and his movie South of Heaven came out October 8, 2021.
Multiple Grammy Award-winner, singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile made her debut on Saturday Night Live as musical guest, alongside Sudeikis on October 23, 2021. Her seventh studio album In These Silent Days was released on October 1, 2021
Episode 3 — Rami Malek and Young Thug
Oscar-winner Rami Malek made his debut on Saturday Night Live on October 16, 2021. Famous for portraying Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, Malek also played Bond villain Lyutsifer Safin in Daniel Craig’s final 007 movie, No Time To Die.
Young Thug made his first appearance as a musical guest after previous cameos as a performer alongside Kanye West in 2016, and Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Young Thug’s second studio album Punk came out on October 15, 2021.
Episode 2 — Kim Kardashian and Halsey
Sometimes Lorne Michaels and Saturday Night Live pick a celebrity so famous that they don’t need to have a project to promote to justify hosting—and that seemed to be the case with Kim Kardashian, who presented on October 9, 2021. The reality star, entrepreneur, and activist lent her voice to the 2021 film PAW Patrol: The Movie but it’s unlikely she was there to push that project.
Former host Halsey supported Kardashian as the musical guest. It was Halsey’s fourth time appearing on the show, and she’s turned out to be a musical guest who has no problem contributing to a sketch too.
Episode 1 — Owen Wilson and Kacey Musgraves
It’s hard to believe Owen Wilson hasn’t previously hosted Saturday Night Live, considering he’s been a major comedy star for more than 20 years now. He hosted the Season 47 premiere coming off the back of a successful start to 2021, with his performance as Mobius M. Mobius on the Marvel Disney+ series Loki. He also starred in Wes Anderson’s movie, The French Dispatch, which came out in theaters on October 22, 2021.
Grammy-winning country star Kacey Musgraves appeared as the first musical guest of the season on SNL. Making her second appearance on the show, she recently released her fifth studio album, Star-Crossed, which is out now.
