That’s a long way off, and the continued wait will be frustrating for many Elder Scrolls fans. Fortunately, plenty of other big games are coming down the industry pipeline, many of which are likely to be released before anyone gets their hands on The Elder Scrolls 6. However, whether that gives fans something else to look forward to or reminds them how long they must wait for a new Elder Scrolls is a matter of opinion.

Highly Anticipated Games Releasing in 2023

Plenty of anticipated games are coming this year, including Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Hearts, Company of Heroes 3, and Octopath Traveler 2 in February. Other notable examples include the horror game Sons of the Forest 2, the Bayonetta spinoff Bayonetta Origins, and the long-awaited Dead Island 2 and Diablo 4. Below are all the big games with confirmed release dates between February and August 2023. Note that Amnesia: The Bunker, Robocop: Rogue City, and Baldur’s Gate 3 have release windows but no specific release date.

If The Elder Scrolls 6 Releases after 2023

Not every game coming this year has a release date just yet. However, barring some genuinely catastrophic delays, all these titles should hit shelves and digital storefronts long before The Elder Scrolls 6 is ready for launch. Notable examples include Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and From Software’s Armored Core 6. There’s also a decent number of strategy games on this list, with Aliens: Dark Descent, Homeworld 3, Pikmin 4, and Tempest Rising launching in 2023. TES6 publisher Bethesda also plans to release Starfield and Redfall this year.

If the Elder Scrolls 6 Releases After 2025

During a November 2021 interview on IGN Unfiltered, Todd Howard explained that fans should expect a gap of around 15 years between Elder Scrolls games. He also noted that game’s on the scale of Skyrim typically take Bethesda around four to five years to develop. This is why some predict The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t launch until 2026 at the absolute earliest. That means any game launching in the next two years has a good chance of making it out the door while TES6 is still putting on its shoes.

While there will no doubt be many big games coming in 2024 and 2025, most don’t have public release windows yet. Exceptions include highly anticipated games like Spider’s GreedFall 2, the Yakuza spin-off Like a Dragon 8, and Instinction, an FPS inspired by the legendary Dino Crisis series. While 2025 is a long way off, all three titles will most likely come out well before The Elder Scrolls 6.

Other Highly Anticipated Games Likely to Come out Before the Elder Scrolls 6

Not every game in development has a clear release window, or at least not one that’s publicly available. Not all of these games are guaranteed to launch before The Elder Scrolls 6 like Fable 4 is, while others might secretly only be a few months away. However, any officially announced games have a fair chance of releasing before the Elder Scrolls 6 launches sometime in 2026 or 2027.

A few of these upcoming games don’t even have official titles, such as the three Assassin’s Creed games and a new Tomb Raider game. Also on this list are games such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the first-person action RPG Avowed, and the long-awaited Beyond Good and Evil 2. Other examples include highly anticipated sequels such as Remedy’s Control 2, Hexworks and Defiant Studios’ The Lords of the Fallen, BioWare’s Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2, and Supergiant Games’ first-ever sequel, Hades.
