One of the most popular subscription tiers of PlayStation Plus is PS Plus Extra, which is the lowest priced tier to offer access to the aforementioned catalog of PS Plus titles. Within these many titles are a variety of well-received games from Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise, making PS Plus Extra all the more attractive to any fans of the IP.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

The fan-favorite Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is available to play through PS Plus Extra, and it’s a unique comedic spinoff title for the franchise that was critically well-received upon its initial 2013 release. Using many of the same assets as Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon is a short but sweet experience that utilizes a vaporwave aesthetic throughout.

Poking fun at the action hero movies of the 1980s, Blood Dragon is set in a dystopian imagining of the year 2007. With the player taking control of the infallible Rex “Power” Colt, Blood Dragon offers a lighthearted and visually pleasing gameplay experience for PS Plus Extra customers.

Far Cry 3

As well as possessing its aforementioned spinoff, Far Cry 3 itself is available to play via PS Plus Extra. Originally releasing in 2012, Far Cry 3 is considered by many to provide one of the most memorable and high-octane experiences that the franchise as a whole has ever produced. Taking control of tourist-turned-warrior Jason Brody in the fictional Rook Islands, Far Cry 3 boasts a strong narrative that is only heightened by iconic characters such as secondary villain Vaas Montenegro. Given the huge reputation and cult following that this particular installment possesses, curious customers should absolutely check out Far Cry 3 via PS Plus Extra if they have not already.

Far Cry 4

Another mainline Far Cry title that is present within the PS Plus Extra catalog is Far Cry 4, which released in 2018. Featuring more grounded and serious tones than its mainline predecessor, Far Cry 4 was received well by fans due to the depth behind Pagan Min, further reinforcing the franchise’s track record of compelling villains. The map of Far Cry 4 is the fictional dictatorship of Kryat, which plays into the franchise’s strengths through a vast and imposing regime that the player has to overthrow. Even if lacking the more bombastic elements of Far Cry 3, the core narrative and polished gameplay of Far Cry 4 makes it worthy of inclusion within PS Plus Extra’s roster.

Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal is another spinoff title for the franchise, surprisingly set in the year 10,000 BC. While using the same map as Far Cry 4, the gameplay of Primal is inherently unique thanks to the time in which it is set. Doing away with guns and machetes in favor of bows and clubs, Primal applies the Far Cry formula to a surprisingly compelling Mesolithic Era narrative about humans and Neanderthals. It can be said that Far Cry Primal is one of the most unique installments to ever come from the franchise, making its playability via PS Plus Extra all the more exciting.

Far Cry 5

The more recent Far Cry 5 is also available in PS Plus Extra’s catalog of titles as an expansive mainline entry to the franchise that released in 2018. Far Cry 5’s setting is in the United States, doing away with the franchise’s tendency to focus on more obscure and remote geographical locations.

In Far Cry 5, the player takes control of a voiceless protagonist who is a junior deputy investigating a powerful religious cult in the fictional region of Hope County, Montana. The cult, known as Eden’s Gate, focuses on the concept of an impending doomsday, and is led by the enigmatic Joseph Seed. With the wider Seed family controlling sub-regions around the area and different aspects of the cult’s operation, the deputy finds themselves cut off from the outside world and forced to dismantle the organization piece by piece. Considering that Far Cry 5 also boasts a popular and expansive multiplayer mode, the huge amount of replayability within the title makes it a perfect match for PS Plus Extra.

Far Cry 5 New Dawn

The final Far Cry title available through PS Plus Extra is 2019’s New Dawn, making it the most recent series installment to appear in the catalog. New Dawn is a spinoff for Far Cry 5, adopting a post-apocalyptic dystopian setting in the same region of Montana, but set in the year 2035.

While the canonicity of the game is up for debate, New Dawn takes place after the “true” ending of Far Cry 5, which sees a nuclear bomb devastate the area that the title is set within. New Dawn depicts the near-future fallout of this ending upon society, with a greater sense of lawlessness and chaos among conflicting enclaves of survivors. With more rudimentary weaponry and the wilder flare of the game’s characters, New Dawn is a compelling series spinoff deserving of its spot on PS Plus Extra.
