One genre especially well known for its seasonal events is battle royales. The most popular games in the genre frequently release limited-time events for their players to enjoy, and this October is no different with some of the biggest battle royales getting ready soon to kick off their Halloween events. For most games, the Halloween events re-themed at least one of the respective games’ maps to be a bit more seasonal, as well as offering a range of pretty incredible skins and other cosmetics as well. This is great for fans of the titles, as well as any gamers who want to get into the Halloween spirit over the course of October.

Monsters Within Apex Legends

Apex Legends’ Monsters Within event returns this year, bringing a number of additions to Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale. The event runs from October 12 to November 2, and on top of cosmetics, also adds a new Arenas map and a limite-time mode. The new map is called Encore and is located on Seer’s home planet of Boreas. While Respawn Entertainment is still working on fixes for Apex Legends’ ranked Arenas matchmaking, the new map seems like a strong addition for fans of the game mode while they wait.

Monsters Within also sees the return of the popular Shadow Royale limited-time mode. This mode sees fallen players returning as shadows of themselves that can continue to fight alongside and help their squadmates as many times as necessary until the last living legend of the squad is killed. Of course, it wouldn’t be an event without some nice cosmetics to go with it. Apex Legends has those in spades as well, with a range of new and returning cosmetics that transform characters into scary clowns, vampires, werewolves, and a whole lot more.

The Haunting of Call of Duty: Warzone

There is still not a whole lot known about what is being planned for this year’s Halloween event in Call of Duty: Warzone. The developers announced earlier this month that The Haunting event will launch in Call of Duty: Warzone on October 19, and will be available for players until November 2. The developers also announced that more will be revealed about the event on October 18 just before its launch, but there have been numerous teasers and leaks that could point a bit towards what players can expect from the event.

The first of these leaks concerned the limited-time operator skins that players could purchase during the event being Ghostface from the Scream film series, accompanied by the bunny from the cult-classic time-bending movie Donnie Darko. The developers have yet to comment on the bunny operator, but the Ghostface skin was confirmed to be coming to Call of Duty: Warzone later this month. Other unconfirmed leaks claim that players will have a number of themed challenges to complete over the course of the event, with players that finish all of them being awarded the LAPA submachine gun for their troubles.

Halloween in PUBG: Battlegrounds

PUBG: Battlegrounds has also announced its Halloween event for 2021, which includes a themed touch-up to the Erangel map, as well as three different periods to earn exclusive loot. The seasonal changes to parts of Erangel look pretty fun and bright from what the developers have shown, and it is definitely interesting that the developers have opted to run three different timed events within one larger Halloween event. The first runs from October 6 to October 19, and is called Wicked Halloween. This sub-event gives players daily challenges that reward points players can spend on items like a green ghost spray or contraband coupons.

The second event is called Halloween’s Last Survivor, and has an identical structure with players being able to exchange their points for more contraband coupons or a PUBG Varsity Jacket. The third event, called Fresh Hoods X PUBG, gives the player four weekly challenges that each rewards players a different item upon completion.

During the event, players can also earn exclusive sprays by watching partnered streamers play the game as well. The event also brings some exclusive cosmetics to the in-game store, including a vampire and knight costume and some snazzy gun cosmetics. The items are available to be purchased individually or in bundles for players who really want to get into the Halloween spirit.

Fortnitemares

Fortnite’s Fortnitemares event already kicked off on October 5 and runs until November 1. The event has already brought some pretty exciting new skins to the game, including classic horror movie monsters like Frakenstein’s monster accompanied by some community-inspired box costume skins as well. Epic Games has said that more skins and aspects of the event will be announced as it progresses, with a special skin for The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes having already been teased for Fortnite.

The event will also feature a third Short Nite film festival, which will include a number of short horror films that players can watch in-game through a community-built theater with a unique room for each of the short films. The event also brings a new weapon for players to find known as the Dual Fiend Hunters that look like Van Helsing-like dual crossbows with bolts that burn with green flames. The developers have also confirmed that during the later part of the event, Fortnite’s mysterious cubes will enact the next step of their sinister plan, which will bring with it a new limited-time mode, and unique cosmetics for players to earn via challenge completions.
