Before getting started, players will want to make sure they’re ready for a swim. Download and install the latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons update, then head to Nook’s Cranny, or the shopping catalog, to purchase a sleek new wetsuit.

Wetsuit in hand, players will want to approach their nearest shore or dock and hit the A button to dive into the ocean. Players can press the A button repeatedly to swim faster, but be wary of scaring away shy sea creatures. Speaking of which, sea creatures will make themselves obvious by blowing a stream of bubbles up towards the surface - if a player catches sight of a stream of bubbles, they should use Y to dive under and snag the critter.

Players will find a list of all available sea creatures, when to find them, and how many bells they’re worth right here:

Island-dwellers should note that although these sea creatures may have a home in Blathers’ bustling museum, they cannot be sold to C.J. Likewise, C.J. will not offer to make a model of any of these sea creatures.

Players should also take note of two special findables: Scallops, and Pearls. The fishing otter, C.J. may not consider these items collectibles, but the laid-back Pascal treasures them.

Finding a Scallop will allow players to meet the wise seafaring otter, Pascal, and trade him for gorgeous Mermaid Series DIY recipes, among other things. Pearls, on the other hand, can be used to craft the aforementioned Mermaid DIY recipes - although it isn’t technically a sea creature, players should keep an eye out for the small, round, underwater shadows, that hint at a possible Pearl.
