There are three main starter Pokémon for players to choose from when they first start off their playthrough of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. The first three Pokémon that players will get a good look at in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are Quaxly, Sprigatito and Fuecoco. These three Pokémon each feature two additional evolutions you can unlock by leveling them up. Here’s what you need to know.
Quaxly Evolutions
Quaxly is the Water-type starter Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This duck-like Pokémon has three forms in total, starting with its original, short and cute form. Quaxly’s mid-evolution sees the Pokémon growing just a little bigger, and taking on more of a stand of fighting Pokémon we’ve seen in the past. It hasn’t been revealed whether the mid-evolution, Quaxwell, will come with any additional types or moves, but it definitely looks like it could.
From Quaxwell, your Quaxly will be able to evolve a third time. This starter Pokémon’s final evolution will see it growing even taller and taking on even more of a fighting-type Pokémon look. This Pokémon is called Quaquaval, according to leaks about the game, and resembles a more human-like design than the super cutesy design seen in the original starter Pokémon.
Fuecoco Evolutions
The Fire-type starter Pokémon found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also takes some interesting twists during its evolutions. Starting as a dinosaur-looking Pokémon, Fuecoco evolves into a mid-evolutionary phase called Crocalor. From there, the Fire-type Pokémon evolves into its final form, Skeledirge.
For the most part, Crocalor doesn’t look much different than the starter Pokémon’s first form. However, Skeledirge is a mechanized crocodile, which looks absolutely brilliant, with a fiery halo around the back of its mouth and head.
Sprigatito Evolutions
The final starter Pokémon is Sprigatito—this feline Grass-type starter Pokémon evolves into a Floragato and a Meowscarada, with each evolution taking on a different look from the previous. Not very much is known about these additional forms, but the secondary evolution takes on a more human-like appearance, with Floragato standing on two legs versus four.
The final evolution of this starter Pokémon, Meowscarada, sees it adding even more colors to the design, and even wing-like pieces jutting from its back. Of course, we’ll know more about all of these starter Pokémon and their various evolutions once Pokémon Scarlet and Violet comes out later this week.
