Like its predecessor Three Houses, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is split into multiple routes: Scarlet Blaze, Azure Gleam, and Golden Wildfire. Each route features a number of new characters, including new playable characters, bosses, and NPCs, as well as several returning favorites from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Many of the newly revealed characters are nobles and other important political figures in Fodlan and its surrounding countries.

Shez & Arval

New protagonist Shez immediately differs from their predecessor Byleth - they are a young, inexperienced mercenary with no parents and a mysterious past. After the defeat of their previous mercenary company, Shez vows revenge on Byleth, but joins up with one of the three houses when they realize they are not strong enough to defeat the Ashen Demon. Like Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ Sothis, Arval is a strange being living inside Shez’s head; they have a snarky but friendly relationship with their host. Arval’s presence lets Shez enter a special “Awakened” state when they fight.

Count Leopold von Bergliez & Count Waldemar von Hevring

Counts Bergliez and Hevring are nobles of the Adrestian Empire and fathers of Black Eagle members Caspar and Linhardt respectively. Like their sons, they are lifelong friends who tend to argue about the smallest things. Unlike most of the Empire’s other nobles, they support Edelgard in her bid to take the throne. Both appear as NPCs in Chapter 3 of the Scarlet Blaze route, Hevring wielding magic and Bergliez using his fists to fight.

Count Gregoire von Varley

The cruel father of the Black Eagles’ Bernadetta supports Edelgard only when he starts to realize that she has the support of the other nobles and the Adrestian people. Not wanting to work with the count and his constantly shifting allegiance, Edelgard’s retainer Hubert assigns Count Varley to a position as bishop of the Southern Church, where he is the target of constant assassination attempts.

Margrave Matthias Gautier

The father of Sylvain from the Blue Lions, the Margrave is a noble who strongly supports Fodlan’s Crest system and favors his younger son over his Crestless older one, Miklan. Despite his traditional outlook, Margrave Gautier is a staunch ally of Dimitri’s who is happy to see the young prince take the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. His lands border the country of Sreng, with which Fodlan has a poor relationship, so the Margrave is often busy and rarely leaves his lands.

Rufus Thierry Blaiddyd

The brother of Lambert Blaiddyd, the former king of Faerghus, Rufus was made regent of the Kingdom until Dimitri came of age and could inherit the throne himself. A weak-willed ruler, Rufus easily falls under the sway of “those who slither in the dark,” a villainous organization hoping to rule Fodlan from the shadows. Much of the plot of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes kicks off when Rufus decides that Dimitri is unfit to rule and attempts to take full power for himself.

Holst Sigiswald Goneril

The current leader of House Goneril and the older brother of the Golden Deer’s Hilda, Holst is responsible for protecting the mountain range known as Fodlan’s Throat from invasion by the Almyran forces. Holst is a brash, energetic character who is always eager for a fight and is considered one of Fodlan’s strongest combatants. Despite his tough exterior, Holst loves his younger sister and would do anything for her. Fans currently theorize that Holst will become a playable character in the full version of the game, although he remains an NPC in the demo.

Count Gloucester

One of the most prominent nobles in the Leicester Alliance, Count Gloucester is the father of the Golden Deer’s Lorenz, and shares his son’s distinctive bright blue hair and asymmetric hairstyle. Count Gloucester is not particularly loyal and will side with whomever he feels is the most powerful and will benefit himself the most. Because of this, he spends much of the Three Hopes demo debating whether to side with the Alliance or the Empire in a possible upcoming war.

Prince Shahid of Almyra

One of the many princes and princesses in line to potentially inherit the throne of Almyra, Shahid is an ambitious man who wants to take advantage of the conflict in Fodlan to invade the country. While he is competing for succession with several other siblings, he is most wary of his missing half-brother Khalid, who is currently living in Fodlan and going by the name Claude. Shahid is fought as a boss in Chapter 3 of the Golden Wildfire route in Three Hopes; similar to Claude, he is a skilled fighter and rides a wyvern into battle.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will release on June 24, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
